2. Madison West High School Student Initiative to Lower the Voting Age
A student representative of the Madison West Civics Club asked for the Youth
Commission’s support in promoting youth participating in government. The club's goal is
to educate on policy, engage in politics and to lower the voting age for school board
elections in Wisconsin to 16, which would require passage of a constitutional
amendment. Several Youth Commission members expressed interest in supporting this
initiative. The Youth Commission will research the best way to move forward on the
initiative and will discuss the options at the next meeting. Initial possibilities could
include drafting a resolution for Supervisor Fries to sponsor and convening a work group.
