B. Consideration of Minutes
EMS Commission February 2025 Minutes
Attachments: February Minutes
The minutes were approved.
C. Discussion Items
Cambridge Area EMS Update
Chief Williams started as interim chief on February 15th following resignation of former
Chief. Several medics left the service, leaving 2 full time on staff. Hoping to be fully
staffed service once again by May with a copule new members offered positions. Agency
has been calling Comm Center every morning to let them know when they are running as
a Medic vs. a Rescue. New medical director contact info will be sent to DCEMS staff.
Medical Advisors will review the Mercy protocols for similarity among MEP and UW
protocols.
Waunakee Middleton Report
Chief Wunsch and Chief Russell spoke on joint study that was recently completed and
published. It was a year-long process. Either or both services will have to expand to
accommodate the rising population and rising call numbers; report gave options for
collaborating vs expanding individually. Agencies want to be proactive and address these
needs prior to it becoming an emergency. Middleton will need third ambulance in the next
year or two. Waunakee just put a second ambulance into service and are currently okay,
but will need a third in the future. Suggestion to have EMS Commission vocal at local
level to help services advocate for expansion that addresses growing needs.
State Licensing for Out of State EMTs
DeerGrove EMS experienced difficulty in getting a new out-of-state member licensed
easily through Wisconsin. The work around was for that person to become licensed in
Minnesota first, then able to license in Wisconsin through the existing state agreement.
Concern is that this inconvenience could deter out of state applicants from coming to and
staying in Wisconsin as providers. Have Chief Lang draft something about the situation
for Commission to review and consider next steps.
Annual Report
Chair Plotkin and Meier to report to PP&J with annual report on discussions being had in
EMS Commission.
EMS Annual Survey
DCEMS office working on grouping up questions and shortening the survey. Still taking
feedback from chiefs and members.
Update from MAS
Infant Warming initiative to keep infants warm in the field. Put out info and materials to
all agencies. Protocols being updated by both UW and MEP. Have also discussed
Continuum, Survivor Celebration, EMS Week, Harm Reduction Vending Machines.
CARES Update
911 Update
No update.
Telecommunicator Week - thank you calltakers!
D. Presentations
E. Reports to Committee
DCEMS - Eric Anderson can share cardiac arrest CARES Annual report next meeting
after report is released. Crisis Response Team has increased from 70 to 100 members
trained to provide support. Half time coordinator position in Dane County Office helps
manage the team. First true deployment was to ALCS.
