The April 15, 2025 Dane County Heritage Preservation Commission meeting will be a hybrid meeting.

Members of the public can either attend in person or virtually via Zoom.

The public can attend in person in Room 354 of the City County Building, 210 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd

Madison, WI.

The public can access the meeting virtually with the Zoom application or by telephone.

Chair Bernstein presented information about the design of the historical markers and the

possible price for such signs. Commissioners discussed the various shapes and sizes

of the potential markers and possibly incorporating QR codes that could be removed or

modified when technology changes.

Report and Possible Action on Recommendations for Historic Markers Outside

of Madison

Commissioners discussed the attached list of sites outside of the City of Madison.

Motion by Miles, seconded by Morales to direct staff to explore a partnership and

support from communities and private property owners to erect signs at six

locations: Harry Whitehorse Home & Studio in Monona, Ho-Chunk Village in

McFarland/Dunn, Lake Mendota Dugout Canoes in Shorewood Hills, Robert

Valentine Farm in Rutland, Vandenburg Heights/Capehart Housing in Sun

Prairie, and Ada Deer Home in Fitchburg. Based on owner feedback, staff should

explore costs, and the Chair should work on language, for the signs.

Commissioners discussed not taking action on these sites and instead to focus efforts

on sites outside of the City of Madison.

E. Future Meeting Items and Dates

By consensus, the Commission decided to postpone the meeting to June, rather

than meeting in May. Staff will send out a poll to commissioners to see their

availability.
