AMENDING CHAPTER 9 OF THE DANE COUNTY CODE OF
ORDINANCES, REGULATING COUNTY OFFICIAL CONDUCT

A motion was made by ENGELBERGER, seconded by HUELSEMANN, that the
ordinance amendment be recommended for denial. The motion failed by the
following vote:

ENGELBERGER, Supervisor HUELSEMANN, Supervisor POSTLER and Supervisor

Sup. Rose spoke and indicated that he wishes to postpone in order to make some
amendments he is working on. Sup. Chawla spoke in opposition to the current OA.
Chawla does not want to unnecessarily constrain county board members from seeking
employment or discourage people from service to community. Sup. Kemp wants to see a
revised version before making a final decision on the OA. Chair Miles indicated he is
inclined to vote against the denial motion and in favor of postponement as a courtesy to
the sponsor of the OA.
FINAL VOTE: postponement to Exec Committee's 6/20/24 meeting.
A motion was made by ENGELBERGER, seconded by POSTLER, that the
ordinance amendment be postponed. to the Executive Committee, due back by
6/20/2024 The motion carried by a voice vote.

AMENDING CHAPTER 18 OF THE DANE COUNTY CODE OF
ORDINANCES, SELECTION OF CHIEF OF STAFF POSITION IN THE
COUNTY BOARD OFFICE
ROSE, MCGINNITY, McCARVILLE, HATCHER and RITT
Sponsors:
Sup. Chawla spoke in opposition and said the Chief of Staff is a civil service position and
should not be subject to board approval. Sup. Kemp spoke against the OA. Sup. Rose
(sponsor) spoke in support, saying he drafted this in response to concerns of District 16
residents.
A motion was made by HUELSEMANN, seconded by ENGELBERGER, that the
ordinance amendment be recommended for denial. The motion carried by a
voice vote.
