B. Consideration of Minutes
MEDICAL ADVISORY SUBCOMMITTEE AUGUST 2023 MINUTES
Attachments: MAS Minutes
The minutes were approved.
C. Discussion Items
Dane County EMS Protocols
Pediatric Hypoglycemia
DCEMS Protocol for pediatric hypoglycemia D10 dosage will change to 3mg/Kilo per Dr.
Kim’s research and recommendation. Newborn resuscitation protocol dosage should also
be updated. Add box that says to check in 10 minutes and redose as appropriate. Once
pages are corrected, updates and memo will be sent to agencies.
Stroke Update
Following meeting with the hospital stroke coordinators and neurologists, it was agreed
that pre-hospital LVO screening makes no immediate difference in treatment of stroke
patients. Because of this, it will be removed from the Dane County protocols following a
memo that is sent to hospital stroke programs to make them aware of the change.
Carbon suggests hospitals continue to monitor any inter-facility transfers to make sure it
isn’t causing undue strain on the system; also a suggestion for stroke programs to share
data with group.
Stoughton ED Transport - Strandlie
Strandlie reviews capabilities of Stoughton ED as they have seen an increased number
of patients being transported that they aren't able to provide proper treatment for. Diebold
reiterates that it's sometimes hard to transport patients from their facility to another
facility, and EMS transporting directly to a more appropriate hospital may give patient
best care. Strandlie will share list of capabilities with Meier to share with agencies.
ED Recovery Coaches
Suggestion for EMS providers to call for a Recovery Coach on behalf of their patient so
they can meet them in the ED. EMS providers are not expected to do this, but it is an
extra opportunity to get that patient help if desired. Request to add ED2Recovery number
to next protocol update. Cards/flyers will also be sent out to get number shared out to
agencies. Meriter also provides HOPE kits in ED and trying to track data to see how
often they are being distributed and how often Recovery Coaches are being utilized.
D. Presentations
E. Reports to Committee
F. Future Meeting Items and Dates
G. Public Comment on Items not on the Agenda
H. Such Other Business as Allowed by Law
DeerGrove EMS got a grant to help fund HOPE kits for the leave-behind program and will
be implementing it late this week/early next week. Dr. Spigner shares that Luke Bryan
concert will be in Brooklyn next week.
I. Adjourn
