A presentation of the attached slides on youth justice, with emphasis on racial
disparities of youth in the system. Discussion ensued regarding:
Employment services for youth
MOUs with local governments law enforcement regarding referrals for restorative
justice, and a new pathway for referrals that do not involve law enforcement
Involvement of youths’ family in the intake process
Extent to which victim input affects the justice process
Reasons for the low rate of involvement of Hispanic youth in the justice process
Efforts to intervene before youth are involved in the justice system

Colleen Clark-Bernhardt, Director of the Office of Justice Reform, provided an update on a collaboration
with the Council on State Governments in identifying potential federal grant opportunities. At this point
the search continues for opportunities that fit with Dane County priorities.
