1. Advocacy Day Role
OLSON talking with Janet Zander from BADR. Next year the need for volunteers and
guides to assist with touring the Capital is needed. There are so many who do not
know their way around the building that having guides present would assist people.
E. Reports to Committee
1. Wisconsin Senior Advocates
OLSON reported they are still working on recruitment and making up a brochure.
Voting issues for older adults is at the top of the list. Progressive Senior’s is a group in
Milwaukee who is working on a 10 year history of how aging programs have been
neglected over the years.
2. ADRC Governing Board
Nothing to report.
3. County/State/Federal Legislative Updates
OLSON reported people are concerned if there is a federal shutdown, how this could
impact Social Security payments.
4. State’s Aging Advisory Council
OLSON reported she will be stepping down from this committee soon. Asked some of
those from the SAT if they would be interested in serving.
5. Wisconsin Aging Advocacy Network
OLSON reported that most of next week’s meeting will focus on Federal and State
budget items. Healthy Aging grant and refunding volunteer drivers was voted down on
the state level.
6. Senior Advocacy Training Update
OLSON reported having a very interactive group for this training. Everyone was
involved in the process and had a lot of questions. Hoping most of the participants join
in advocating for the budget requests in place.
7. Budget Priorities Update
OLSON reported speaking with Dane County Human Services Division Administrator
for Disability and Aging Angela Velasquez, that the department was able to fund the
money request for Nutrition but not for the Focal Point Case Management request.
OLSON discussed the County Board Budget Hearing advocates. If the Focal Point
Case Management request is approved we still need to continue to advocate to the
Health & Human Needs committee and to the general County Board before they vote
on the budget proposed by County Executive Parisi.
