1. Create a Tree Board Operating Agreement
This will be an evolving agreement between board members, that can
help our team create an environment in how we communicate and
operate.
a. Action-oriented agenda items: “decide, brainstorm, weigh in
on” – shift from reporting and information sharing to engaging
b. Be deliberately engaged
c. All members of the board feel valued and respected
d. Permission to be unpolished
e. Communicate the ask
f. Stay on topic, or put the idea in the parking lot to be discussed
at a later time, or if time allows
g. Hear from everyone
h. Make new members feel welcome
i. Follow up on request/tasks
j. Start on time/end on time
2. Finalize and vote on our mission and vision statements.
a. Draft Mission Statement: “Advocating for equitable healthy
community forests in Dane County”
b. Draft Vision Statement: “Increased canopy cover and healthy
community forests”
c. Finalize and vote on our goals that the Tree Board will operate
under.
Draft Goals:
1. Goal: Increase/promote equitable tree canopy
2. Goal: Support tree preservation
3. Goal: Support forestry careers and opportunities
4. Goal: Advocate and support Dane County Forester
Programs
5. Goal: Increase education/knowledge about trees
3. TCC potential outreach project funding for Heritage Trees project
and Urban Tree Alliance project.
4. Bundle Proposal to spend the remainder of Tree Board budget
($1,600)
a. Purchase monument and dedication of 2-3 of Significant
Community Trees
b. Purchase of 300 Heritage Trees ($86/100)
c. Remainder of any funding spent on establishing a pilot project
educational heritage tree growing bed at Schenk Elementary School
5. Nomination of a specific Significant Community Tree to dedicate a
monument to
