B. Consideration of Minutes
MEDICAL ADVISORY SUBCOMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 2022 MINUTES
The minutes were approved.
C. Discussion Items
Meriter EMS Liaison Introduction
Daniel Sefcik has been the Meriter EMS Liaison for about a month and a half. He
encourages anyone with questions to feel free to reach out. Welcome Danny!
EKG Transmissions to Hospitals
Hospitals are currently using Lifenet to receive 12-lead EKG transmissions. The 5 year
contract with the vendor is coming to an end in about a year. Meier would like to start
having conversations with the hospitals about looking at all possible options that are
most cost effective and that works with all the defibrillators being used in the county. The
goal is to keep the vendor the same among all the hospitals as has been done in the
past.
OB Emergency Communications Update
Previous conversations expressed concern about the criticality of an emergency OB
patient not being effectively communicated to OB triage through the Meriter ED. Internal
meetings at Meriter concluded that the current process works and the couple of cases
that had issues were anomalies. Patrick Anderson asks that the conversation continues
at the hospital as that type of situation has happened on more than one occasion.
Cardiac Care Symposium
DCEMS and Dane County Medical Advisors are planning a training event to discuss
cardiac care. It will include case summaries, history of cardiac care in Dane County, and
how to continue to improve patient care. CEUs will be available to attendees, and is
scheduled for February 1st. Meier asks for ideas from members on a location for the
training.
Bariatric Patient Care
DCEMS's new R30 was deployed for its first bariatric call last week. It was in a
community outside of Dane County - thank you to Madison Fire for volunteering staff to
take R30 to the patient. The only issue during the deployment was that the hospital cot
could not go as low as the bariatric cot in the rig; this posed a safety risk for EMS in
having to lift the cot high enough to transfer the patient. Meier will follow up with hospital
liaisons to figure out how address this issue going forward. Meier encourages agencies to
reach out to DCEMS office to schedule training for their staff on how to use the lift.
D. Presentations
E. Reports to Committee
Meriter has seen increase in boarding patients in ED; providers cannot go through front
door of the downtown UW hospital; St. Mary's hospital has additional security points that
make it more difficult for personnel to get out without an escort.
F. Future Meeting Items and Dates
Next meeting January 9th.
G. Public Comment on Items not on the Agenda
Williams reports that SCRTAC has laminated copies of trauma field guidance available
to be distributed to agencies. There is also the upcoming SCRTAC Conference on
December 1st at American Family. CEUs will be available.
