C. Discussion Items
East Madison Hospital Trauma Care Update - Smith
East Madison Hospital is planning to upgrade to a level 4 trauma center this year. They
will have a one-pager with field guidance for EMS personnel to quickly reference. They
will track data to review the change and its effect on patient transports.
Lucas Device Backboards
The group discussed the possibility of having EMS receive a Lucas device backboard
from the ED after transporting a cardiac arrest patient. This will allow EMS personnel to
get back into service in cases where they have to wait to get their backboard returned.
The worry is that not all agencies will want to have their backboard(s) in circulation. It
was suggested that EDs make it common practice to offer one to the crew, but the crew
can decide if they want to wait for their own. This topic will be brought to the next EMS
Association meeting to discuss. Danny Sefcik created a workflow document for this
process that can be sent out once approved.
2022 Data Update - Anderson
Eric Anderson gave an overview on Dane County's 2022 EMS data. A finalized
publication will be released and posted on the DCEMS website. Chief Carbon thanks
Anderson for all his hard work and suggested that a group of interested parties could
meet through the DCEMS office to analyze the data and identify future initiatives for
improvement.
