B. Consideration of Minutes
EMS COMMISSION JANUARY 2023 MINUTES
Attachments: January Minutes
The minutes were approved.
C. Discussion Items
DCSO Mental Health Response Team – Leslie Fox
Deputies Lisa and Leslie talked about the DCSO Mental Health Response team. It
started with two full time positions, but they did not have a focus on mental health.
Mental Health calls have been significantly up since Covid started. Starting last fall, 4 of
the 8 Community Deputies were reassigned to Mental Health deputies. The purpose of
their work is to connect people with resources. They continue to look ahead at the next
couple years and evaluate the needs. Doolan encourages deputies to attend budget
meetings to give in-depth info to the County Board. They are not automatically dispatched
in the CAD, other deputies go to the call first and then they request the Mental Health
deputies if needed. Anderson from the DCEMS office may be able to help with data
ideas. Wish list for their division would be to see budgeted positions, a countywide
CARES team, unmarked vehicles, larger team, and full coverage for busiest times.
D. Presentations
E. Reports to Committee
DCEMS - The Sheriff's Office and 911 were all trained in Active Shooter Incident
Management during in-service trainings. An EMS flex grant from the state was awarded to
DCEMS to purchase a UTV for pre-planned events to hold a Rescue Task Force, and
also to train with. DCEMS held interview for both the Opiate Prevention Specialist, and
the .5 time Community Crisis Coordinator. The new building is still in progress. UW
released a position statement last week about best practice for RSA. MAS reviewed the
statement, and Meier will be meeting with Corp Counsel on next steps. There is also a
meeting with medical advisors on Friday to create a statement for local MD's to make
their own policy decision on this topic.
F. Future Meeting Items and Dates
April 19th, 5:30pm

Response team.
