8.31.2022 MINUTES FOOD COUNCIL FOOD PLAN WG

A motion was made by KAUTH, seconded by CATON CAMPBELL, that the Minutes  
be approved. The motion carried by a voice vote 2-0.  
C. Discussion Items  
1. Dane County Pandemic Food System Study. Sift is holding community conversations  
and focus groups.  
2. Dane County food system concept paper:  
Draft version - review, add/edit categories and add content.  
3. 2023 USDA Regional Food System Partnership grant  
WIll draft county & city budget amendment proposals for funding.  
4. North Central SARE Professional Development grant -  
-Grant/ - will likely be due end of March 2023. Maximum award has been $120K for a  
period of up to 36 months.  
a. Michigan State’s 2021 food system plan grant -  
to see if they have a food system plan in place. Can look at their application via this link;  
their report will also be uploaded here.  
5. Farm Bill 2023  
-Can consider advocating for reducing/removing the cash match requirement for some  
USDA grants, like the RFSP grant.  
-Also advocate to change the reimbursement process  
D. Presentations  
USDA to fund Regional Food Business Centers.  
listening to the announcements on the website. Funding a minimum of 6 centers. 1 will  
be tribal. Also includes subgrants. Stakeholder call this Friday & next week.  
USDA - Land Capital & Market Access grant.  
USDA - $2 billion increase to go to food purchasing: Local Food Purchasing Agreement  
(LFPA). Farm to School, Emergency Food Providers  
Invitation to folks to co-chair this Food Plan WG.  
Re-convening meetings with the WI Local Food System entities. In light of all this new  
funding & making sure we’re all communicating & able to partner with each other.
