B. Consideration of Minutes
MEDICAL ADVISORY SUBCOMMITTEE SEPTEMBER 2021 MINUTES
The minutes were approved.
C. Discussion Items
Infection Control Handbook
Group agreed that it would be best to update the Infection Control Handbook every two
years at the same time as the EMS Protocol update. A Covid-19 protocol page will be
added; Kronenfeld and Lohmeier will work to put a draft together before the next MAS
meeting. They will also ensure there is a disclaimer page at the beginning of the book
that explains that as diseases evolve recommendations from public health agencies may
change. Dustin Weber reports that he is working on updated infectious control training.
Meier reports that the state is offering fit testing, so she will work on bringing them into
the county.
ECMO
UW Health is expanding the age range of patients eligible to be considered for ECMO.
Patients starting at 13 may now be considered potential candidates. They are also trying
to emphasize considering ECMO after pushing the first dose of epi. Desire is expressed
to message this more widely as providers don't always consider ECMO within the
necessary time frame. DCEMS office will put this information in a future newsletter. It
was also suggested to have Communication Center dispatchers prompt providers in the
field.
ED Diversion Draft
ED Diversion draft was created among the hospital ED's to take the responsibility off
EMS staff to ask hospitals if they're able to receive transport patients. It advocates for
clear guidance and discussion among hospitals before a decision is made. 911 diversion
is also discouraged.
Protocol Update
The goal date for implementation of the new version is early 2022. Kronenfeld thanks
everyone who's been involved in updating. DCEMS office is still working on cleaning up a
couple protocols. Some protocols have been removed, but some new ones have been
added. The new version will have two formats like the last update: a Field Operators
Guide and a full protocol book.
DCEMS Office Update
The newsletter continues to go out every month. Emergency Management will be hiring a
new position soon, an EM Specialist. The PulsePoint AED program has been at a bit of
a standstill while other projects have been going on, but the hope is to get that back on
the forefront again soon. Anderson continues to create cardiac arrest reviews and used
the last newsletter to highlight a couple cases in which the crews performed optimally.
Covid testing kits are still available from the office. C3 pathways is coming to the county
to teach an ASIM Train the Trainer course. 15 members in the public safety community
will then be able to train others on ASIM Basic. The office is hosting an HPCPR training
on November 2nd.
