1. PIMA COUNTY PEER LEARNING SITE VISIT
Presented by Colleen Clark-Bernhardt, CJC Coordinator
Discussion of the opportunity to complete a site visit of the Pima County, AZ crisis care
continuum. This site visit was an opportunity through the National Association of
Counties (NACo). Pima County is one of the national leaders in behavioral health and
criminal justice. This provides crisis services, in addition to connection to other services.
Law enforcement are able to connect people experiencing behavioral health crises to
treatment quickly. Note that there are a lot of differences in government set-up and
funding between Wisconsin and Arizona.
Discussion ensues. Differences in funding and structure of health services in counties.

2. DEBRIEF: CJC STAKEHOLDERS 1:1 MEETINGS WITH COORDINATOR
Presented by Colleen Clark-Bernhardt, CJC Coordinator
The CJC coordinator holds annual meetings with individual stakeholders to learn what
they want from the CJC in the upcoming year. Council members report the benefits of the
CJC including opportunities to collaborate, educate other council members, discuss
data, and involve the community. Challenges include the disconnect between juvenile and
adult data, the organization of voting vs. non-voting CJC members, and updating the
dashboards.
CJC members request that subsequent meetings discuss a number of topics (see
attached presentation). These include items pertaining to pretrial justice, behavioral
health, racial disparities, length of stay, and connection to services. Current research
covers many of these topics (see attached presentation). The CJC Research and
Innovation team will subsequently survey CJC members on their priorities, discuss the
results with the CJC Chair, and then further develop a proposed workplan in September
2022.
Discussion ensues regarding scope of county jurisdictions, particularly with DOC and
Probation and Parole holds. There is additional interest in resource needs based upon
the JFA Institute report.
