H. Report from the Chair
Stroman announced September 12 – September 16 is Disability Voting Rights Week.
There is going to be a press conference September 15 at 9:00 am. in the lobby and on
the steps of Madison City Hall.
Stroman said she is going to be more aware of other Councils, Committees and Boards
whose work overlap our areas of interest. She will inform board members of their
agendas and minutes when they are posted.
I. Report from Board Members
Yochum said the WI Senior Advocates group has been working on get out the vote for
seniors. A well informed flyer has been designed by a sub-committee to help with this.
Ferguson said on Monday, October 10 at 7:00 pm. He will be hosting Access Hour on
WORT on behalf of the treatment assistance fund. Doctors from the Transdisciplinary
Center for the research of psychoactive substances at the UW School of Pharmacy will
be talking about the clinical trials that are ongoing.
Nichols said the UW strike by nurses has been aborted thanks to the intervention of the
governor. The demands they were seeking were due to poor staffing and unavailability of
needed resources to provide the care and their concern for both safety and quality and
have their union recognized.
Olson wanted to bring to attention the issue of two large companies buying up the
managed care entities in the state. There are concerns in the aging and disability
community that this will have a negative impact on the quality of care. Olson said the
UW Retirement Association, which she is a member of, is going to take part in the UW
Resource Fair. Olson plans to have a table there with Area on Aging and ADRC
Brochures and plans to talk to people about transitioning into retirement.
J. Report(s) from Manager and/or Staff
Fischer said the ADRC has reached out to 35 families that have Katie Beckett Medicaid
where the young adults turned 18 and older during the public health emergency. These
young adults will lose Katie Beckett Medicaid when the health emergency ends and as a
result need to find alternative health insurance. The ADRC will reach out to those families
to offer help and assist them in finding a different form of health insurance.
The County budget came out for Human Services and in that was a full time resource
position and a half time dementia care position to be added to the ADRC. The ADRC is
extremely pleased with the addition of these positions.
The county is transitioning to offering hybrid meetings. Equipment is being added to the
ADRC conference rooms so that we can host hybrid meetings. The board meeting can
be offered as a hybrid meeting option once staff is trained and all the equipment is
installed.
K. Future Agenda Items
Stroman would like to have Astra Iheukumere come speak to the board.
Nichols would like a presentation from Leading Age. They do a biannual report on the
workforce demographics in long term care. Nichols would also like to have Dr. Barbara
Bower or her assistant come to talk about the 2021 LPN survey.
Yochum mentioned he would like to have the decision made at the next board meeting as
to where the public hearing will be. Yochum said he would like Angela Velasquez,
Division Administrator, to come talk with the board.
