1. Friends of Capital Springs Recreation Area
The Friends of Capital Springs Recreation Area (FOCSRA) is a nonprofit organization,
and its mission is to work with Dane County Parks and the Department of Natural
Resources to promote and manage the property. Bill Lunney introduced FOCSRA board
members in attendance. Judie Pfeifer discussed a collaborative Ho-Chunk interpretive
planning project and provided a recap of the dug-out canoe event held in June at WG
Lunney Lake Farm County Park. Steve Schooler discussed the Master Naturalist course
held in April and other education and outreach programs led by Clare Carlson, the
FOCSRA Naturalist. Dan Kerkman has been volunteering for the last 24 years and he
provided an overview of many of his projects. Park Commissioners thanked FOCSRA for
all their volunteer efforts.

2. History of the Capital Springs Recreation Area
Bill Lunney from FOCSRA gave an overview of the original efforts to create the Lewis
Nine Springs E-Way and how Dane County/DNR collaboration resulted in the creation of
the nearly 2,700 acre CSRA. The CSRA is located just south of Madison and extends
from Fish Hatchery Rd to the western shore of Lake Waubesa.

K. Announcements
Chair Ripp announced that the Waakikižu Natural Resource Area naming resolution
passed and staff will work to update website and order park signs.
Joleen Stinson announced that Parks has a current full-time laborer position posted and
that the Foundation for Dane County Parks is hiring their first Executive Director.

A motion was made by GOFORTH, seconded by MORAN, that the Meeting be
adjourned. The motion carried by a voice vote 5-0.
