1. NewBridge Madison, Jim Krueger, Executive Director
NewBridge Executive Director Jim Krueger presented on services offered by NewBridge.
In 2019, four agencies in the City of Madison merged to form NewBridge. Staff provides
Case Management to older adults to keep them in home longer. Classes and activities
related to socialization, health and education are scheduled to help with older adult
isolation issues. Recently NewBridge started a Mental Health program for all Focal Points
in Dane County. Case Managers refer the highest needs clients to receive services.
NewBridge has both congregate and home-delivered meals programs for older adults.
They assist with 12 sites in Madison to provide different opportunities for older adults to
get a healthy meal. Food bridge is another nutrition program offered in which the food
pantry makes deliveries to older adults in their home. Socialization is a plus for the
deliveries since these older adults are isolated in their home. Home chore program uses
volunteers to assist with household chores. Transportation has been provided for Black
and Latinx community members to provide a safe place for education and health
programs. This program was used a lot for rural residents to bring them into Madison. In
2020 money spent on the Black and Latinx programs was down as people were hesitant
about going out. In 2021, those numbers have gone back up mostly for health and art
programs. NewBridge was able to rent a movie theater so older adults could watch a
movie with social distancing in place. This was a great chance for those with isolation
issues to get out and have contact with others in a safe environment. NewBridge is
partially funded by Dane County with 36% of funds spent during COVID. NewBridge bills
Dane County as they use the funding made available to them for programs. The AAA
Aging Plan for the next three years is looking at making transportation more affordable
so more people can benefit from the services.
Adult Communities Services Division Administrator Todd Campbell shared that the
Transportation Call Center has taken on a lot more rides during COVID. Vendors will be
reviewed as to where the needs are for rides.
